Fat is Good for Ageing Bodies!

 

 

So what do I mean by Fat is Good?

Fat has been demonised for over thirty years now. During the 1980’s this demonisation was taken up by the Food and Diet Industry, and big bucks were made.

Yet it has never been proved that fat was bad, with the exception of transfats, which are toxic.

Baby Boomers, those born between 1945 and 1965 were the ones who became convinced that the only way to keep weight off and be healthy was to eat low fat foods. Later generations then inherited the myth and our stores are still full of low fat or fat free products.

People are often shocked when they hear that fat is not so bad after all, and somehow they cannot bring themselves to enjoy higher fat products.

I probably need to add that its the combination of fat, sugar and additives that are damaging peoples health, so don’t go lathering butter on your bread or malt loaf!

It is worth knowing that because many of us who were sucked into this myth, are suffering the results with early skin problems.

Did you know that fats and oils are ESSENTIAL to the body. Fatty acids are building blocks just like protein is.

They are beneficial to our skin, vision, brain function, bone density and hormone production.

Make sure they are healthy fats, and that includes butter! Contrary to popular belief saturated fat does not go straight to our arteries.

There is so much information now, much of it is contradictory, the media confuse people too. Do the research yourself and find out.

    It’s always good to get the right information. Fat is good, as you say, in moderation. We need it for brain development if nothing else.

      That’s right Gail. We do need to do our own research. What is so good is that these days we can do that with the Internet. I wonder whether Altzeimers is now so much more common because this is the generation that was advised to not have fat!

    My husband is diabetic and since we have been following the Banting diet (although) we are not fanatical about it and still eat the occasional carbs, his insulin requirements have dropped incredibly. Plus we both have so much more energy and not nearly so bloated. Fighting our sugar addiction is difficult as we both have a sweet tooth but we persevere.

      Yes Pat. Sugar is definitely the problem. I started my recovery with a Banting style diet. Four years on, I am now able to follow quite a normal diet. Everything in moderation. I keep the sugar intake low, and don’t worry about the fat, but it has all balanced out into becoming a “normal” eater. My husband is diabetic too, I keep him on very low sugar intake. But as he does not have a weight problem I let him have a small amount of carbs. He is still the same low level of Metformin that he was five years ago when he was first diagnosed.

    I’ve never trusted the government nor researchers when it comes to advice on what and what not to eat. Some things just make sense, like eating butter (fat) over margarine (goo) 🙂

      Absolutely Tammy. If you take the colouring out of the so called healthy margarines, you will indeed end up with grey goo! Isn’t it strange that they claim that something like this is healthier than the delicious healthy sunshine from butter.
